I travel frequently and want to utilize public wifi safely and securely. Hotel and airport wifi can be very convenient but also pose a significant security risk. A friend highly suggested I consider VPN software. I did not purchase a VPN to hide where I'm at or do anything illegal but instead wanted to protect my information from prying eyes. NordVPN had a large number of servers, wonderful pricing and integrated with my MacBook Pro and iOS phone. Their servers are located in many large cities across the US and make it easy for me to select a preferred server. I am disappointed in the VPN software choices.

Support has told me that there are two different types of software (OpenVPN and IKE). I run the software on their site (IKE), but they don't allow me to connect to the same server choices on the two different platforms. Support said I would need to change my phone to OpenVPN to make use of some additional servers such as 534, 535, 536, 537 which are nearest to me.
What I don't understand is why the software from their own site does not show all of their servers. I could understand if it was opposite case and I was using OpenVPN and might not have access to all of their servers. Speed is good and most sites still work wonderfully with VPN enabled. I have had to stop using Change.org and other similar sites as they won't allow me to sign petitions with VPN enabled. I could understand this if they did not use a user account for signatures as you could inflate the petition and make the process illegitimate.
But Change.org uses user accounts and choose not to respect my wishes for privacy through VPN. Thus they lose my support for a lot of good petitions for change. This is NOT NordVPN's fault but mentioned as you may find yourself choosing between the privacy of NordVPN and some sites that won't allow the use of VPN. Clients are well built.
Would like to see some of the PC client's features ported over to the Android version such as per app blocking or a 'kill switch' if VPN connection lost. A linux client would be nice, I learned how to successfully set up in the 'network manager' of Linux Mint Cinnamon. I've read there are other VPNs that have faster speeds, but at a more premium price.with that said, you can't beat the number of servers that Nord has.
I have never had an issue of streaming video degradation or P2P downloads. Buy service in 'bulk' 2 or 3 year subscription and SAVE:) The built-in optional feature of CyberSec to avoid ads and block known phishing sites is a true asset in the perils of the internet nowadays. I research a lot of things before I purchase especially with a two year agreement. I am a 4th amendment and privacy advocate. I do not get compensated for this review/opinion at all. I am truly satisfied with NordVPN! I've used many vpn's before, including cyberghost, hma, golden frog, ipvanish, and some others.
I have to say, Nordvpn prices are the best with the 3 year special for $99 their speed is decent, connection reliable with no dropped connections so far, kill switch is important, as well as no DNS or WebRTC leaks, etc. They have many servers per country and many countries which makes it great for those of us who needs a different country/state/city location.
The only flaw I've found so far is that their servers are difficult to find by city, and we have to manually look up the server number to match it with the different cities. IOS app and Android app is also excellent to use besides windows.
Blows HMA and Cyberghost apps out of the water. I've only used the service for a few days so far, but I am pleased, and asked myself why I didn't join them a long time ago? I've been using a vpn services for 8 years or more. Almost nothing ever works out for me. Murphy's Law, unfortunately, has been ruthlessly enforced throughout my life.
So imagine my joy and surprise at finding a product which nearly had me convinced that the dreaded law had been repealed. Hope springs eternal (as does futility.) How grateful I am to find that THIS product did not give me the usual problems I suffer when I attempt to install an app and then try to get it to work, to no avail.
I usually end up placing curses on the developers, their country of origin, and their descendents to the fourth-generation. I recently needed to get access to a product in Hungary but was unable to because of various restrictions and rules about locales. I was able very easily to connect with this product to a VPN server in Hungary and download the product with no problem. I learned very quickly about VPNs through using and seeing how to put it all together.
I became almost an expert in just a few hours of using it. But it HAS made it easier to fool myself into believing that I am an expert!) I have found it so useful and it gives me great comfort to know that my data can pass to and from the remote website without being observed, hacked into or compromised. In short, I won't be cursing these guys in any way, shape, or form, and yes, their descendents are safe as well! In fact I gladly give it the full five stars! Color me a happy guy! I’ve only been using NordVPN for a few days now, but I’m impressed by how little of a hit my internet speed takes when using it.
My only complaint is that there are some websites like Netflix and Amazon that work sometimes and don’t others. I read that by switching to Canada I’d be able to get into Amazon and that proved to be true, but I also took a pretty significant speed hit because of it (which disappeared when I went back to my host country).
I’m still learning the ins and outs of VPN, however. So far so good.
Signed up for the 2 year deal and am not happy with the service at all. Servers are constantly down, and tech support are absolutely worthless. 2 days ago I actually had Nathan, a tech/customer service rep complaint that he did not understand my problem at all (I was not connecting).
Rather than transfer me to someone who could or request additionally assistance from a colleague he suggested I email NordVPN for help. They are definitely cheap with the specials they are running but you will get what you pay for. Heartily and sincere thanks to 'NordVPN' team! It's definitely the best software in all aspects: services, options, ease of use, nice communication, professional tips and support etc. Very important that they steadily and constantly progressing and improving (e.g. Speed, number of servers and covered countries etc.). Also, 'Nord' offers some features and options which no one other provider does.
In my strong view based on practical experience 'NordVPN' deservedly and fairly takes the FIRST position and keeps TOP reputation in the world! Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed! I'm not really a computer savvy person, but I was able to download, install and use the three day trial. I found it sat in the background without any issues, no endless pop ups, no sales adverts. It didn't slow my computer down. It really was good, I felt confident my details were secure when doing banking etc. I had 2 issues, one it didn't like a bot I was running to play a game, I'm sure someone who is tech savvy could sort that out in the second, I didn't want to pay a non sterling transaction charge on my credit card.
Again I'm sure if you are more computer literate than me you could resolve this. I would recommend it as I think it's the best out there. I am new to the VPN game but did my research and landed on Nord. Not only was the deal they had going a fine price but the mix of ease to use and features is phenomenal. If you are a pro it has advanced features that can be adjusted to your needs. If you are a newbie like me it is super easy to install and set up while giving you enough details on their website to explain how to customize to your needs. Lots of servers all over to pick from.
Yes it does slow down your torrent downloads but that is to be expected. Safety first! I would definitely recommend to others. I have used 5 different VPNs and all of them had drawbacks and I ultimately decided to look for something better like NordVPN. From the very start of my subscription to NordVPN I was astonished at how easy to use it is, and at how the connection speed is only limited by your connection speed. Other VPNs have struggled to keep up and I have maybe 40 mbps on a good day.
This doesn't even break a sweat at 40 mbps and I haven't been able to cap it on any connection I have access too. This is all on top of the fact that this VPN is much more anonymous and doesn't put on a front in hopes of getting you to spend more money. The prices are beyond fair, the service is beyond exceptional.
Price is incredible especially with the 3 year deal and their customer service is as good as they come, l even cancelled and received a refund promptly but was lured back by the 3 year deal. However, the speed on most servers that I tried, more than 20, came up with about 20-30% of raw speed. Granted once in a while I would get 60% of raw and even 90% but that is rare. However, the tech team helped tirelessly and I actually went from less than 10% to average 25% raw speed.
It may still be a bit slow for some but considering one only needs 20Mbps+ to stream 1080, and the fact that they constantly add new servers i.e. Improving and growing, I decided that 25% (25Mbps) was good enough for me and stayed with them for their great price and customer service and the promise of 'no log' privacy. I transitioned from Express VPN to Nord and I couldn't be happier. The setup and installation to Windows 10 was very easy and simple.
I love that it is multi-platform and I installed in my IOS devices. The interface is straightforward and the map is fantastic. Very handy that Nord automatically selects the fastest server to connect from my geographical location. That fact that I can connect to North America and still have a fast connection is a credit to Nord. Highly impressed and highly recommended. Super reliable VPN service with great speeds. Have just renewed my account after my first year, and wouldn’t consider switching to another company.

I’ve got it set on 4 devices simultaneously, including my phone and iPad, so I’m set for secure private browsing, streaming services, and for use with p2p. I particularly like that they have dedicated servers for p2p, and that they will automatically switch you to one of those servers when needed, and the kill switch, among many of their other features. I can't really review the different features that Nord includes because I just have it running on my home router in the background doing it's thing.
But I have checked 'security' websites per say and they do show that my IP and DNS is being spoofed through Nord and have run a DNS leak test and all DNS queries are going through Nord and other minor checks as well. So it is performing as I would expect it to. The only problem I would say I have is even though a server would only show about 20% load my speeds would drop to 10Mb/s or less even though my router has shown it can handle 25Mb/s (Limited only by CPU power, not their servers) on different Nord servers. My go to fix for this is to just change servers on my router and it'll be back up to where it was. I have also used the Nord app on my phone a couple of times with a lot more CPU power than a router and my speeds would only drop about 3Mb/s compared to what the stock ISP speed would be. Which is not only terrific but understandable as the traffic does have to be encrypted.
It works well, except when I do a Speedtest, I am getting 8 mps download, and about 8 mbs upload. My Internet Service Provider is Bell Canada, I have Fibre 25, but it is not the greatest. I am changing to Videotron which has a superior service. An equivalent service from Videotron is better than Bell.
I will be getting their Hybrid 120, which will take me t0 a 120 mbs download and 20 mbs upload. Then I will do the speed test again to see the difference. Overall I do like it and just wanted to Mention I was able to watch British live TV without a problem. I had a VPN from tunnelbear, used mainly for geo location, on occasions this would fail and there were no obvious servers available to connect. So I tried NordVPN after doing some research.
The general opinion was that NordVPN servers were consistently providing geo location obfuscation, and in practice I have found them to be more reliable than Tunnelbear. However, I have found that there is quite a hit on data speed, which has meant Iplayer dropping out or being such poor quality that it becomes unwatchable.
The answer is to find another server from the many on offer, but it would be nicer not to have to.
